PAINESVILLE – Lake County shone bright during the fifth annual Lake County Christmas and holiday lights contest. The holiday season in Lake County reached new heights of brilliance this year and community members turned their homes into spectacular displays, filling neighborhoods with light, color and Christmas spirit. “We look forward to this contest every year,” said Lake County Treasurer Michael Zuren, the contest’s organizer. “It’s a wonderful way for our community to come together, celebrate the season, and spread joy during the holidays.” All the entries were amazing this year. The displays brought joy and filled our cities and county with the Christmas Spirit. Notably, the Lunar Family at 38769 Bell Road in Willoughby earned national recognition as winners on ABC’s The Great Christmas Light Fight. In a gracious gesture, they asked to be removed from consideration for any local awards so other families could shine. Judges selected multiple winners in several categories, with public voting determining the People’s Choice winners. Palmerston Drive, Mentor (Prijatel Family) – Classic nativity scene • 7124 Hodgson Road, Mentor (Valenty Family) – Classic nativity scene People’s choice • 30001 Warren Road, Wickliffe (Thomas Family) – Overwhelming lights with Santa sleigh display • 4798 Webb Road, Perry (Halsey Family) – Giant Santa, spree of lights all over driveway and property – a drive-through residential display • 1950 Tuttle Park Road, Madison (Szekely Family) – Winter wonderland of holiday figures including snowmen, Santa, Disney, Jesus and so much more All winners received an official proclamation from Zuren acknowledging their contribution to Lake County’s holiday spirit. Winning displays are showcased on the treasurer’s official social media channels and included on a special drive-through map for the community to enjoy. “This contest continues to highlight the incredible creativity and generosity of Lake County residents, making the holidays brighter for everyone,” Zuren said. “Thank you to all who participated and helped spread the Christmas cheer!”
