PAINESVILLE – Volunteers who sustain the mission of The Salvation Army were recognized on Friday, May 15, at the organization’s volunteer appreciation dinner.
Twin sisters Billie Willis and Bobbie Owens were honored as The Salvation Army’s volunteers of the year during the event, held at the Salvation Army offices.
Majors John and Alma Riley presented the awards in recognition of the sisters’ lifelong dedication to service.
“Billie and Bobbie are living out a legacy of love and service left to them by their mother, Florence Moore, also a soldier and active volunteer in The Salvation Army,” said Maj. Alma Riley. “They have devoted their lives to the welfare of others through the ministries of the Army. They have truly made a difference.”
“Throughout all of their adult lives they have devoted their time, talent and treasure to making a difference in the lives of others. From scrubbing floors to delivering Christmas gifts to nursing homes, no job is beneath them. Most importantly, they do it all with love and contagious joy,” Riley continued.
Willis and Owens have been volunteering with the Salvation Army since they were 6 years old, growing up just down the street from the organization.
Today, their commitment remains as strong as ever.
The sisters continue to help set up and clean up the monthly senior dinner and are always ready to lend a hand whenever they are called.
