WILLIAMSFIELD – The good times keep on rolling at the Williamsfield Community Center.
The longtime tradition of Roller Skating Nights is taking place from 7-8:30 p.m. every Friday in the gymnasium.
Geared to children from kindergarten to eighth grade, the event gives the young ones something fun to do on a Friday night, according to Bobbie Lahti, who co-coordinates the program with Donna Zahn.
“It gets them out of the house. It’s a little break to the parents and the parents visit each other. It’s a social thing,” she said.
She noted that it’s been held for decades.
“It’s well over 40 years it’s been going on,” she said.
Kids can bring their skates. There are also a limited supply available at the center. Snacks are also available for purchase.
The cost for the Roller Skating Nights is an admission of only a $1 donation per child, and proceeds go to the upkeep of the center.
“It’s sort of a fundraising for the community center,” Lahti said.
Zahn said the kids have a good time on the skate nights.
“It’s something for the kids to do around here in the wintertime,” she said. “Plus, they learn to skate.”
She said they’ve seen a lot of generations coming to the Roller Skating Nights over the years.
“I think it’s great, and the parents think it’s great,” she said.
She said parents who used to bring their children to the skate nights marvel at the program’s longevity.
“They say, ‘I can’t believe you guys still do this for the kids,’” she said.
The Roller Skating Nights started the first Friday in November and go through the last Friday in March, excluding anytime Pymatuning Valley Local Schools is not in session for vacation or snow days.
