The Edgewood Warriors softball team accomplished a lot in a 6-3 win over the visiting Jefferson Falcons on Thursday, May 7. Not only did the Warriors win their 14th game in a row to improve to 15-1 on the season, they also secured the CVC Lake Division championship. To top things off, starting pitcher Luci Paolillo surpassed 500 career strikeouts.
Paolillo pitched all seven innings for Edgewood in the win. Paolillo gave up three runs, all unearned, on seven hits, four walks and 12 strikeouts. Ada Sirrine pitched six innings for the Falcons and suffered the loss. Sirrine gave up six runs, three earned, on 11 hits, two walks and a pair of strikeouts.
Jefferson built a 2-0 lead with a pair of runs in the top of the first inning to start the game.
The Warriors then mounted an early comeback bid with three runs in the bottom of the second inning to take a 3-2 lead.
Jefferson would tie things up in the top of the fourth inning with a run, making it 3-3.
Edgewood regained the lead in the fifth inning and never looked back for the win. The Warriors scored two runs in the fifth inning, making it 5-3. Edgewood went on to add an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth inning to win 6-3.
