Have you noticed that as Christmas styles and trends change every few years, we long for the “good ole days” of the Christmases we celebrated when we were younger?
Society calls those items and customs we celebrated as “vintage” if they are at least 20 years old but less than 100 years old. According to the internet, “true vintage” is sometimes used to label items that are at least 50 years old.
I guess if you applied that to senior folks, I am now vintage, and proud of it, I might add. And I love to recall some vintage customs and items of my youth and early marriage.
Cards were a big deal when Bill and I got married and were for years. Folks brought out the tape and posted the Christmas cards as they arrived. You taped them all over your doorway, on a piece of string or yarn or inserted them into a metal Christmas tree card holder.
The more cards you got, the better it made you feel. Sort of like the classroom Valentine boxes where you hope to get as many cards as the next student or more if possible! Boxes and boxes of cards could be found in stores, ordered by mail or even signed with your family name!
