ASHTABULA – Congratulations to two Edgewood High School seniors-Brock Fultz and Devon Sanchez, on the opportunity to continue playing at Wilmington College next season!
“I’ve played pretty much everywhere on the line, (so) it was nice to get experience,” Brock Fultz said.
“I like playing offense; making way for my friends to score,” he added.
Fultz did that four years as part of the Warriors football team, serving three years as the team’s left guard, and his senior season at center. He helped paved the way for his friends, including wide receiver Devon Sanchez, who will also continue playing football at Wilmington next year.
“I trust my linemen,” Devon Sanchez said.
“Give the quarterback as much time as possible,” he said.
“We’ve played together since fifth grade, and never imagined we would get to play at the same college. It shows how far we’ve come,” he added.
Fultz echoed his teammate and friend’s thoughts, “We are so excited to be able to do that. To go to the same school…we are stoked about that opportunity.”
Now these two Warriors will take the gridiron for the Quakers down in Wilmington, Ohio. The college’s motto is “Not by a leap, but many steps,” and that motto rings true for their journey.
“I learned a lot about myself. I had to do a lot of reflection on what type of player and person I wanted to be, and Edgewood helped me figure that out,” Fultz said.
“I learned a lot about brotherhood. We played together our whole lives, and have that chemistry,” Sanchez said.
And as far as the steps to getting the chance to play for the college, that was a journey too.
“They reached out via e-mail. My mom did a lot of recruiting work. We went on a gameday visit, then they said to come back after the season and go through the campus and meet the staff,” Fultz said.
“They e-mailed me, and we went back-and-forth,” Sanchez said.
“The wide receiver coach, Coach Farley, is a younger guy he made us feel at home,” he added.
“Just by talking to those guys, the coaching staff is a bonded family. The whole campus atmosphere, no one was down, everyone was up,” Fultz said.
Looking back on his time at Edgewood, Sanchez said, “My favorite memory is playing at the Hall of Fame Stadium versus a school for New Jersey.”
Edgewood would defeat the Ramsey High School rams by the final score of 41 to 21, propelled forward by an excellent second half.
Sanchez is pursuing a degree in sports management while attending Wilmington College, and Fultz is pursuing a degree in criminal justice.
