I love hearing from readers and, often, learn the rest of a story that I have previously written.
I have heard from so many readers concerning Aimee Green Abbott Jett who once owned the Green farm on Stanhope-Kelloggsville Road in West Andover. Some recalled their grandparents and great grandparents sharing memories of the life of Aimee. Since she was married four times, twice to the same man, I will use her first name in this recap.
John Calaway, 80, wrote from Tuscan, Arizona, and the information he gave filled in the blanks on three columns I have written. And all three are now connected even though there is 13 years between the writing of them!
Concerning the story of Aimee, Calaway had an interesting connection. His late mother, Eleanor Orilla Gray Calaway, was born in 1912 in the Sentinel community in Lenox Township. He recalls his mother telling him about going on a visit as a young child to West Andover with her mother.
She and her sisters became scared after seeing several “strange” men dressed in Asian clothing and hats as they walked along the road. They ran to their mother and told her what they saw. She informed them a local lady had been to China and brought several Chinese persons back to the United States to live with her. Supposedly the men were walking to a nearby store when the children spotted them. There was one General Store in West Andover for many years.
