JEFFERSON – A sign announced a scrumptious treat at the Jefferson Depot Village.
“Come on in for some strawberry shortcake,” the message read. “So yummy!”
On Saturday, June 6, people followed the sign inside to get their serving of the summertime delight during the Jefferson Depot Village’s Strawberry Festival and Craft Bazaar.
Some of the visitors were from as far away as Boardman and New Castle, Pa. They were on a bus trip with Breakaway Tours.
Gail Hall of Boardman was enjoying the strawberry shortcake.
“It’s excellent,” she said, noting it was her first time at the event.
Anissa Fracul and Jodi Frank of New Castle sat across from each other as they ate the delicious treat.
They were having a good time at the event. They thought the Jefferson Depot Village had old-fashioned, homey feel.
“I’m loving it,” Frank said. She liked reminiscing about things from the past.
Pam Wooding, a volunteer with the Jefferson Depot Village, was serving the strawberry shortcake.
“It’s a crowd favorite,” she said.
In addition to visiting craft vendors, people could tour some of the buildings at the Jefferson Depot Village.
There were 16 quilts and a crocheted afghan on display in the church.
Theresa Hnida, a visitor, was looking at them. She liked the afghan.
“It’s beautiful,” she said. “I would like to have that one.”
Beth Cool, a volunteer, was on hand for visitors. She shared some information about the quilts, which will be donated to local veterans later this year.
“Most of the veterans’ quilts are from the Ashtabula Friendly Quilt Guild,” she said. “We do a veterans program every Fall.”
