ORWELL – A slate of accomplished local student athletes was honored during a Monday, June 29, meeting of the Grand Valley Local Schools Board of Education.
First up were those who were named to the All-NAC Starts Division, including Payton Plizga, Carl Krieg, Cooper Plizga and honorable mentions Ryan Began and Carter Turk.
Those named to the All-County Team were Zach Sirrine as coach of the year, Payton Plizga as player of the year, Carl Krieg and Cooper Plizga to first team, Eli Souders to second team and Carter Turk and Nicholas Barbieri, who received honorable mentions.
Payton Plizga was also named to the All-District Team, with Carl Krieg receiving an honorable mention.
In other business, the board approved temporary fiscal 2027 temporary appropriations at 25 percent of fiscal 2026 expenditures.
The board also approved fiscal 2026 amended appropriations to the general fund in the amount of $13,992,683.82, special revenue at $1,813,305.25, enterprise funding of $547,684.51 capital projects at $725,066.37, fiduciary at $11,500 and the agency fund at $8,845, for a total of $17,099,084.95.
In resolutions:
Approving Lorie Battaglia as the Grand Valley Local School District OSBA conference representative and Dr. Amanda Dolan as the alternate.
Accepting the receipt of $3,498.19 from the Attorney General’s Ohio School Safety Grant and establishing appropriations.
Approving the transfer of $30,718.54 into the Food Service Fund the General Fund for fiscal 2026.
Approving advances from the general fund to:
• Ohio Career Tech Ed Grant $ 2,455.60
• School Bus Safety Grant $ 10,628
• FY26 Title I $ 225.66
Accepting a donation of $125 from Thee Sassy Shack to the Girls Softball Fund.
Approving bus routes for the Grand Valley School District for the 2026-2027 school year.
Approving the elementary, middle and high school student-parent handbooks for the 2026-2027 school year.
Approving the athletic handbook for the 2026-2027 school year.
Approving Advanced Asphalt Paving for the repair, replacement, top sealing and painting of the asphalt parking lot and driveways in the amount of $37,853.
Approving Schools of Ohio Risk Sharing Authority (SORSA) as the provider of property, fleet and liability insurance for the district from July 1, 2026, to July 1, 2027.
Approving the renewal subscription invoice from Frontline Education for absence and substitute management for the period July 1, 2026, through June 30, 2027, in a fee of $9,191.49.
Approving the renewal subscription invoice with Frontline Education for financial planning analytics, for the period July 1, 2026, through June 30, 2027, for a fee of $9,797.54.
Approving Canter & Associates to perform the Medicaid School Program (MSP) Agreed Upon Procedures (AUP) for the district for the period of July 1, 2025, to June 30, 2026, for a fee of $2,400.
Approving the cybersecurity policy for Grand Valley Local Schools.
Approving the direct disposal of the items listed submitted by staff offered for sale on the GOVDEALS auction site.
Approving a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Grand Valley Educational Association.
Prior to adjourning, the board moved into executive session to preparing for, conduct or review negotiations or bargaining sessions with employees.
