The Grand Valley Mustangs baseball team used a big second inning to help propel them to a 6-3 win over the Smithville Smithies in a recent playoff game.
Grand Valley scored five runs in the second inning and then held off Smithville for the win.
Smithville cut the lead to 5-1 with a run in the top of the third inning.
The Mustangs answered with a run in the bottom of the fifth inning to push their lead back to 6-1.
The Smithies would score a run in each of the last two innings, making the final score 6-3.
Payton Plizga started on the mound for Grand Valley and pitched all seven innings. Plizga gave up three runs, one earned, on seven hits, two walks and nine strikeouts.
Brayden Beard pitched all six innings for Smithville. Beard gave up six runs on seven hits, four walks and nine strikeouts.
