ROAMING SHORES – Mark Reed II, Roaming Shores village administrator, stepped down from his post after a Tuesday, Aug. 18, village council meeting after two years on the job to attend police academy, with the intent to return as a full-time police officer.
“It has been my pleasure and great honor to serve the Village of Roaming Shores for the past two years,” Reed’s resignation letter reads. “I have stepped down from my position as village administrator to attend the police academy, with the goal of returning to Roaming Shores as a full-time police officer in 2027.”
Reed took over the administrator position after Lukas Darling left to serve as administrator for the Village of Fairport Harbor.
“During my time as administrator, I had the privilege of working to make the village better in whatever ways I could,” Reed wrote in his letter. “Through your support, love and even the occasional strong coaching, you have helped me become a better leader and a better person.
The village is seeking someone to fill the administrator position and is committed to finding the best fit rather than simply rushing to fill an open seat.
During the interim, Mayor Duane Helms will oversee the village’s day-to-day operations.
During an Aug. 18 meeting, village council approved a pair of resolutions to help with Reed’s training as a law-enforcement officer.
One created a police cadet position and established a pay rate for that position. The other approves a police cadet training and Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy reimbursement employment agreement between the village and Reed.
