ANDOVER – A 2nd-grade teacher at Pymatuning Valley Primary School, Melissa Peyton, was named as the 2026 Teacher of the Year during an orientation held Monday, Aug. 24.
PV Primary Principal Robin Holden presented the award, describing Peyton as a teacher who is always willing to help others.
“This teacher is the first to help out, lift others up and never leaves a student or a colleague struggle alone,” Holden said. “This person doesn’t just teach, she comforts, problem-solves and steps up right when she is needed.”
Holden also described Peyton as “a motivator, a worker bee, a role model, a captain, a peach and a good egg.”
Peyton previously taught preschool at PV Primary before moving to 2nd grade.
The recognition also reflected the esteem Peyton’s colleagues have for her and the effect she’s had in school.
One colleague praised Peyton’s “unmatched grace and inspiration,” recalling seeing her comfort a crying parent, teach a challenging class, tutor struggling students and greet parents with a smile.
“I am so proud to call such a kind, loving, dependable, inspiring person my friend,” the colleague said.
Another colleague called Peyton “a born educator and problem solver,” saying she is always willing to step in wherever someone needs help.
“Her classroom has always been loving and caring, and she goes above and beyond for all students,” the colleague said. “Whenever advice is needed, she listens and offers practical solutions to help students succeed.”
A third colleague praised Peyton’s kindness, patience and ability to bring peace to students having difficult days.
“Even with a million things to do, she is the calm in the storm,” the colleague said. “I feel so blessed to have worked with you for the past five years. Those 2nd graders are so lucky to have you.”
Holden said it was a privilege to honor Peyton as the district’s Teacher of the Year.
“It is a true honor to celebrate our Teacher of the Year: the amazing Melissa Peyton,” Holden said.
