ORWELL – Participants are being sought for the Grand Valley Schools Back to School Bash, which will be held on Aug. 5.
Ashley Hall, community liaison and manager of The Mustang Stable for Grand Valley Local Schools, recently sent out a letter inviting organizations and businesses to take part in the event.
“The Mustang Stable is GV’s Community Learning Center that provides resources and support to not only students, but also the greater community. Although summer has just begun, it is time to start planning for the coming school year’s Back to School Bash,” Hall wrote.
She explained that they have chosen the date of 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 5, to avoid the conflict with the Ashtabula County Fair but also so that parents can take advantage of Ohio’s sales tax holiday (which begins Aug. 7) to purchase any additional school items they may still need to obtain.
“The annual Back to School Bash connects GV families with supplies and resources they need to send their children back to school with confidence and ready for success. We are looking for businesses and organizations that would like to take part in supporting our students and families and in doing so, promote your organization,” Hall said.
Businesses and organizations are invited to have a table at the event where they can provide information about their business/organization while providing goods/resources for the families.
Hall also hopes to expand the back-to-school event to be more of a celebration with upbeat music and fun activities.
She offered some ideas of things that businesses/organizations could offer:
• Sponsor a bounce house, ice cream/snow cone truck, etc.
• Fun activity for the event such as face painting, simple games, prizes
• School supplies
• The extra things on the “supply list” such as disinfectant wipes, tissues, Ziploc bags
• Basic headphones
• Clear, refillable water bottles for students
• Refreshment stand – sno cones, popcorn, lemonade, etc.
• Hygiene supplies – deodorant, shampoo/conditioner, ChapStick
• Vouchers for student haircuts
• Drawing for gift cards that families could use for the business or groceries, school clothes, etc.
• Door prizes to be raffled to families in attendance
“The main event will take place inside the high school auditeria so that it can go forward rain or shine, but we do have space outside the event entrance where we could set up the fun events,” Hall wrote.
If people are unable to attend but would still like the organization or business to support Grand Valley students and families, they are invited to make by a monetary donation or donation of supplies to the Mustang Stable.
