ORWELL – The Orwell Farmers Market, a Country Neighbor program, kicked off for the summer on Wednesday, June 10.
In its second year, the Orwell Farmers’ Market is held from 4-8:30 p.m. Wednesdays at General Chaffee Memorial Park, 60 N. Maple St., in Orwell.
To celebrate the first market of the season, in addition to the vendors, there was music from the Take II Band, a climbing wall courtesy of Cub Scout Pack 72 and Boy Scout Troop 72, a visit from Purple Goat Gardens, hair tinsel, a clown and face painting, food trucks, kids’ crafts and more. There was even a watermelon-eating contest.
Each week at the market, vendors offer fresh produce, handmade soaps, woodworking items, coffee, breads and much more.
A group of volunteers came together last year to form the market. These initial organizers included Brooke Brzyscz, Trisha Yuhasz, Brittany Dryer-Kovach, Ashley Yuhasz and Kelsey Squibbs.
Brzyscz had first posted the idea on Facebook and was met with a strong response.
Their goal was to bring more naturally sourced and locally grown options to residents while offering a fun, casual atmosphere.

This year, the market has over 20 different vendors.
The market aligns with the Village of Orwell Concert Series, which began a week later on June 17.
The Village of Orwell Summer Concert Series is held 6:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesdays at Chaffee Park in Orwell. In the case of inclement weather, the concerts are relocated inside the St. Margaret Mary Alacoque (St. Mary) Parish Hall. The concerts include pre-concert music by Bill Cook beginning at 5 p.m. The concert series is sponsored by Chevy All Stars & Midway Chevrolet. Any additional donations are always accepted.
Bring a chair or a blanket and enjoy. Concessions are available during all concerts by featured organizations.
On June 24, Classic Kats (Country, ’70s and ’80s) will perform, with the featured organization of Scout Night – Troop 80257.
