ORWELL – June seems like a long way off, but Orwell Village Parks and Rec is already putting together a plan to bring a fireworks show to the second annual summer festival.
During a Tuesday, Jan. 20, council meeting, Orwell Village Manager Sean Ratican said he’d had a productive, two-hour meeting with the Parks and Rec Board, during which members said they wanted to increase and improve festivals and activities in the village…beginning with a fireworks show.
Ratican said Fire Chief Shane Gregory confirmed the department was the last body to sponsor a fireworks show in Orwell, about 8-10 years ago, and had held a fundraiser for it.
Ratican recommended council make a dollar-for-dollar donation – up to a set threshold – to match whatever funds the fire department is able to raise.
In other business:
Finance Director Kimberly McKinley reported village revenues for December of $243,031 and expenditures of $204,330. Total 2025 revenues and expenditures both came to $3.4 million, according to McKinley.
