ASHTABULA – Organizers with the Finnish Cultural Center in Ashtabula are looking for trip takers to Finland, this coming summer.
This is a one-of-a-kind trip with a fully escorted guide from North America. The package includes two sharing a room, round trip economy class. The airfare is on guest’s own.
The trip is planned for June 11-24. Time is essential because to secure this trip, persons need to do it as soon as possible by March 9.
“An itinerary is ready to view,” shared Linda Riddell, current president of the Finnish Cultural Center in the Ashtabula Harbor.
The trip is poised to visit very interesting places, like the capital city, Helsinki, and then south to Hanko Harbor where most of the emigrants left from. Then South to Turku, and highest northern city of Oulu. Over to the mid-side and then east side will take persons to the Savolinna Castle famous for its Opera’s held there.
At the city of Seinajoki is the “Church of the Plains,” with clean lines and modern architectural design with its tall white tower. There is an elevator that takes visitors to the top to view over the city. In Turku, guests are able to stroll after a 3-hour historical city tour.
The popular Aura River there has many restaurant boats tied to the wall to have a fish dinner onboard.
Many people with roots from the Ostrobothnia can view picturesque countryside towns such as YLISTARO, Isokyro, Laihia, Kurikka (included lunch) and Ilmajoki, to name a few. When traveling north the group will visit the Marine Museum in RAAHE (entry included) to see the world’s oldest diving suit made from cow skin. On the 18th, the tour goes to KUHMO, the area most involved in the Winter War of 1939/40. This region has ties to the Kalevala – Finland’s epic poem. The saunas are included in all of the hotels, and this hotel will be overlooking the lake Lammasjarvi.
This is just a partial itinerary.
The goal needs to reach 20 trip takers to presume a lower hotel rate. All the hotels have excellent breakfasts that are included and also several dinners.
