MADISON TOWNSHIP – The Old Tavern Preservation Society will be hosting its popular annual fundraiser, the Corn Fritter Classic, on Saturday, July 11, at Madison Country Club.
This golf outing will be an 18-hole, four-person scramble benefiting ongoing work to rehabilitate, restore and revitalize the Old Tavern in Unionville.
There will be a 1 p.m. shotgun start. Tickets include greens fees, cart, prizes, swag bag, hot dog lunch and dinner – complete with the Old Tavern’s famous corn fritters.
The outing is rain or shine. In the event of cancelation, dinner will still be served at 6 p.m. and players will be issued rainchecks for a round of golf at Madison Country Club.
There will also be a Chinese auction, 50/50 raffle, beer and game options for additional cost.

The Old Tavern Preservation Society took over the Unionville Tavern on Aug. 5, 2014. The nonprofit bought the historic building at 7935 South Ridge Road in Madison Township to save it from a sheriff’s auction and began a long-term project to restore the site.
Charles Holmes, a volunteer with the Old Tavern Preservation Society, said work to date has included work on the building foundation, replacing collapsed walls in the basement and renovation of the portico.
Ongoing work is taking place on the Unionville Tavern’s north wall, which sustained water damage due to a failed roof, as well as necessitating shoring the floors where they meet the north wall.
Future work involved more painting, particularly along the north wall once work is complete, removing the shoring and the beginning of cleanup, repair of the Tavern’s interior.
