ANDOVER – The fourth leg of the Pymatuning Valley Greenway Trail will be funded through a $4 million grant from the Ohio Department of Transportation, extending the trail from Slater Road to Pymatuning State Park and the Pennsylvania state line.
Brett Bellas, executive director of Ashtabula County Metroparks, said Phase 1.4 is being funded by a $4 million Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP) grant to build 1.9 miles of multipurpose trail that includes two steel beam bridges and a parking area between Slater Road and the boundary with Pennsylvania.
The plan is to bundle the third and fourth phases of the Greenway Trail and put them out to bid together to help reduce the bidding price, according to Bellas. Construction should take place during the autumn of 2026 and winter of 2027.
Phase III is also funded through a $4 million ODOT TAP grant. This leg runs from Marvin Road to Slater Road.
Bellas said he is working on funding for a final leg to the Pymatuning Valley Greenway Trail that will run between Leon Road to State Route 193 in Dorset Township, dubbed “1.0”
He said he has already received a grant for design work and will be sending that request out for bids shortly. After design documents are completed, Ashtabula County Metroparks can apply for construction grants and begin building the final section of trail during the autumn of 2027.
Once completed, the Pymatuning Valley Greenway Trail will be 13.5 miles in total length, running from State Route 193 to the Pennsylvania state line.
