The Grand Valley Mustangs boys’ basketball team improved to 18-4 with a recent win over the visiting St. John Heralds. Grand Valley won the game 63-48 to drop the Heralds to 8-11 on the season.
The Grand Valley Mustangs went up 18-11 after one quarter of action and never looked back.
It was much of the same in the second quarter as the Mustangs outshot the Heralds 17-12 to lead 35-23 going into the break.
The two teams continued to play tough basketball in the third quarter as Grand Valley edged St. John 13-10 to push their lead to 48-33.
Both teams managed to put up 15 points in the fourth quarter as Grand Valley won the game 63-48.
Solomon Schultz led the Mustangs with 22 points in the game. Carter Turk was right behind his teammate with 21 points.
Rounding out the scoring for Grand Valley were: Payton Plizga nine points, Cooper Plizga six points, Anthony Eason three points and Sam Pizzuto two points.
Gus Petros paced the Heralds with 17 points. Chase Newsome also scored in double digits with 15 points.
Rounding out the scoring for St. John were: Carter Beck five points, Augie Pugliese three points, Tyree Streit three points, TJ Chatman three points and Jaylen Streit two points.
