The Grand Valley Mustangs girls’ basketball team was unable to keep up with the Mapleton Mounties in a recent 67-48 tournament loss.
Grand Valley led 12-9 after one quarter of action, but started to fall behind in the second quarter.
Cloe Turk paced the Mustangs with five points in the opening quarter.
Riley Rowland added four points in the first quarter for Grand Valley.
Jocelyn Cozad added the only other basket and Sophie Thirion chipped in a free throw.
Audrey Hellickson led the Mounties with seven of their nine points in the first quarter.
Khloe Hardesty added the only other basket for Mapleton.
Mapleton turned the game around in the second quarter as they outshot Grand Valley 19-8 to take a 28-20 lead going into halftime.
Addison Hess had a big quarter for Mapleton with nine points.
Kenzie Hellickson and Audrey Hellickson each added five points in the second quarter for the Mounties.
Cloe Turk and Jocelyn Cozad each scored four points for the Mustangs in the second quarter.
The Mustangs would try to battle back in the third quarter, but Mapleton still outscored Grand Valley 16-15 to take a 44-35 lead going into the fourth quarter.
Audrey Hellickson took over for the Mounties with 14 of their 16 points.
Addison Hess had the only other basket in the quarter for Mapleton.

The Mounties would really pull away in the fourth quarter as they outshot the Mustangs 23-13 to win 67-48.

Addison Hess added six free throws to finish with 17 points.
Kenzie Hellickson added five points to finish in double-digits with ten points.
Khloe Hardesty, four points, and Aubree Hess two points also scored in the quarter for the Mounties.
Cloe Turk added six points in the fourth quarter to finish with a team high 25 points.

With the loss, Grand Valley ended their season at 20-4.
