The Lakeside Dragons were able to pick up their first win of the season as they held off the Jefferson Falcons for a homecoming win on Friday, Oct. 3rd.
Lakeside won the Chagrin Valley Conference Lake Division game 28-25 to improve to 1-6 on the season, while Jefferson is now 2-5.
Jefferson scored the first touchdown of the game on a 1-yard touchdown run by Matthew Webster. Lakeside gained some momentum with a blocked extra point as they trailed 6-0.
Lakeside went to work in the second quarter as Zion Thomas scored on a 1-yard carry to tie the game at 6-6. Evelyn Stein tacked on the extra point to give Lakeside a 7-6 lead.
The Dragons would go on to take the lead on a 43-yard touchdown pass from JJ Murphy to Matthew Wagner, making it 13-6. Murphy then found Wagner once again for the two-point conversion, upping the lead to 15-6.
Jefferson responded with a 1-yard touchdown run by Webster, making it 15-12.
Lakeside added to their lead in the second half to go up 21-12 after a missed extra point. Daeveon Gaines gave the Dragons some more breathing room with a long 53-yard touchdown.
Webster added his third touchdown of the game to trim the deficit to 21-19.
Lakeside was up to the task as JJ Murphy found Wagner for a 13-yard touchdown pass, making it 28-19.
Jefferson continued to battle with a 2-yard touchdown run by Mitchell Lundy, making it 28-25.
Jefferson tried to complete the comeback with a big stop on defense. However, Lakeside made the defensive plays down the stretch to secure the 28-25 win.
Lakeside is now 1-1 in the CVC and will face Geneva on the road.
Jefferson fell to 0-2 in the CVC and will host the Madison Blue Streaks in week 8.
