JAMESTOWN, PA – Looking for a weekend getaway for the family?
Spend the weekend of June 27-28 in Jamestown, Pa., gateway to Pymatuning.
The Jamestown Area Historical Society will hold its inaugural Jamestown Pioneer Festival the weekend of June 27-28, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.
The Jamestown Pioneer Festival will be held at the Community Park in town and include the Gibson Manor next door.
“We will be celebrating the history of the United States from 1760-1870! There will be Civil War and French and Indian War reenactors; President Abraham Lincoln and First Lady Lincoln will visit, as well as President George Washington and First Lady Washington,” reads a press release.
There will be colonial arts and crafts demonstrators, chain saw art, blacksmithing, weavers and spinners.
Leon Briggs, a Seneca Native American, will present his Indian crafts and stories.
There will be vendors with handmade crafts, food trucks and live music, including our own Ruth (Fry) Herrick, and the PennOhio Singers doing barbershop favorites.
The event also will have children’s colonial games, a pie-eating contest, and period costumes to try on.
Local blacksmith artisan Richard Young will showcase on Saturday, as well as local children’s author, Carol Young, who will read her colonial based children’s books.
Well-known local artist Robert Griffing will be signing his books of Native American artwork.
Guests may enter to win Chinese auction baskets and visit the Jamestown Area Historical Society tent to purchase Jamestown-themed tee shirts, mugs, medallions or cookbooks.
“We hope to see many of our friends, family and acquaintances there,” reads a press release.
There is no admission fee.
The Pioneer Festival was last held in 2014.
The same weekend, starting Friday night at 5 p.m., visit the Jamestown Fairgrounds where there will be a fabulous Antique Tractor and Engine show with vendors selling all kinds of items, and food available as well.
No admission fee.
On Saturday, June 27, the Jamestown Borough Community-wide yard sale will take place within the Borough from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Roam the town to find bargains and treasures galore.
The Mortal Keys Brewery and Gatehouse Winery are hosting a Blues Festival Friday and Saturday, June 26-27, from 12-9 p.m., and Sunday, June 28, from 12-6 p.m. Enjoy an authentic handmade pizza or charcuterie board with wine or try an artisan beer. No admission fee.
While in town, visit the Deer Park a local, family favorite. Feed deer, goats, llama, and more. Ride the train or a horse.
Take advantage of Pymatuning Lake and the State Park. Enjoy swimming, boating, canoeing, fishing, and hiking.
