PAINESVILLE – Hobo Day, an annual celebration of local railroad heritage and history, is planned for Saturday, July 25, from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Painesville Railroad Museum.
Visitors to the museum can learn about the former Painesville Railroad depot amid the aromas of grilled hamburgers, hot dogs and hobo beans, while a bit farther back, fresh ears of corn sizzle as they roast over a fire.
The hobo encampment will be on the grounds close to the museum’s caboose display.
Barbara Hacha, author of “Line by Line, Mulligan Stew (Stories and Traditions of American Hobos) and Sidetracks,” will be on hand to talk about America’s hobo heritage.
The Collinwood High School Alumni Association is celebrating Collinwood High School 100th anniversary and will be attending Hobo Day to see the museum’s Collinwood 999 Engine.
Visitors who want to come in the spirit of Hobo Day – and dress the part – can be a part of the annual costume contest as well.
Snacks will also include chips and ice cream. All food donations are extra.
Hobo Day will include live music by Cowboy Inc.
There will also be a day of railfanning.
Organizers are planning a model train flea market for hobbyists selling off extra model train items. Many new items have been added thanks to recent donations.
A 10-by-10-foot space is $15. The vendor must provide their own table and chair.
Admission is free. Donations are accepted and appreciated.
