The St. John Heralds rallied in a back-and-forth softball game to defeat the host Grand Valley Mustangs 15-10 on Wednesday, April 22.
Grand Valley took a 2-0 lead in the bottom half of the inning.
St. John would immediately go on to tie the game at 2-2 with two runs in the top of the second inning.
The Heralds shut the Mustangs down in the bottom half of the inning and looked to take their first lead of the game.
St. John went on to score three runs in the top of the third inning to go up 5-2.
Grand Valley answered with two more runs of their own to trim the deficit to 5-4.
St. john tacked on an insurance run in the top of the fourth inning to go up 6-4.
Grand Valley continued to battle with four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to regain an 8-6 advantage.
The Mustangs continued their offensive attack with two more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, making it 10-6.
However, the Heralds had other ideas as they rallied with eight big runs in the top of the sixth inning to go up 14-10.
St. John added one more run in the top of the seventh inning to win 15-10.
As a team the Heralds collected 20 hits, while the Mustangs had eight hits.
Izzy Holler started on the mound for St. John and pitched five and two-third innings. Holler gave up eight runs, seven earned, on seven hits, three walks and six strikeouts.
Maddie Holler pitched one and one-third inning of relief and gave up two runs, on one hit, three walks and two strikeouts.
Ady Kovacic pitched all seven innings for the Mustangs. Kovacic gave up 15 runs, 14 earned, on 20 hits, five walks and five strikeouts.
