WILLOUGHBY HILLS – Happy Tails Cat Sanctuary will hold its fourth annual Sunday Dinner with a Purr-pose benefit Sunday, May 3, at the Banquet Center at St. Noel, 35200 Chardon Road (U.S. Route 6) in Willoughby Hills, from 2-5 p.m. with registration beginning at 1:30 p.m.
The $75 per person charge includes a family-style dinner served at 2:30 p.m.
The offerings include: beef, chicken, salmon and pasta entrées (vegan options available with advance notice); two vegetable side dishes; coffee and tea; soft drinks; juices; beer; wine; and desserts of cake and strudel.

For over 40 years, Happy Tails Cat Sanctuary has been offering a loving home and rehabilitation for cats that have often been rescued from situation of neglect, abuse or abandonment.
In 1982, Jeanne Bones decided to help some cats in need. She founded Happy Tails Cat Sanctuary on several acres of her property in Chesterland. The nonprofit cat rescue is mostly cageless and is one of the few no-kill shelters for cats in the area.
The rescue’s mission is to provide loving, lifelong care and support to abandoned, neglected, abused and orphaned cats, regardless of age or physical infirmity.
At the time, Bones didn’t realize how many more cats were in such desperate need of help. Eventually she set up “cat-friendly” buildings at the Happy Tails Cat Sanctuary. The sanctuary is a nonprofit institution – working alongside with foster homes.
Kittens taken in by Happy Tails tend to be adopted pretty quickly. Older cats or those with special needs due to health conditions are a little harder to place. Some of animals at Cats’ Inn have been there almost their entire lives.
Now Happy Tails operates the Cats’ Inn in Newbury, where the rescue houses anywhere between a dozen and two dozen cats at a time. The cat rescue has anywhere between 45 and 50 cats in foster care at any given time, with two foster homes in Eastlake and one in Willoughby.
Another way Happy Tails is special is that they’re willing and able to take cats back – not just for adoptions that don’t work out for some reason, but also if a cat needs a home after someone who’s adopted a Happy Tails cat can no longer care for them.
Happy Tails is dependent on donations of cat food, litter and cleaning supplies. Monetary contributions pay for utility costs, snowplowing, as well as veterinary bills and cat care in general.
