GENEVA – Christmas came a little early this year for some special employees in the Geneva Area City School District.
At the school board’s Dec. 17th meeting, they were recognized as December’s “Eagle Team Members of the Month” for their contributions to the district.
The new employee recognition program was put in place this year by district Superintendent Dr. Paul Lombardo.
The December Eagle Team Members of the Month are: Brianna Rebera, Melissa Doherty, Brittany Savage, Samantha Leighner, Anne Markijohn and David Wright.
Here are the nominations for each employee:
• Austinburg Elementary School: Brianna Rebera, Counselor
“Brianna is a vital member of our team at Austinburg. She works endlessly to ensure our students’ socio-emotional needs are met and provides them with tools to thrive both in and out of the classroom. She consistently comes to school with a smile, a listening ear, and a helping hand. Brianna’s hard work and dedication does not go unnoticed and deserves to be recognized!”
• Cork Elementary School: Melissa Doherty, Principal
“She goes above and beyond and is always there for us. She has a happy smile and attitude even during the tough times. She is a joy to work with.”
• GPS Elementary School: Brittany Savage, EA
“She is not only the librarian but also the recess monitor. She is also a member of PBIS and makes sure that all of the students have a great school experience by providing them with necessary essentials, decorating the hallways, handling morning announcements, and filling in whenever necessary. She greets our students in the mornings and helps with afternoon dismissal outside all year round. Additionally she is spearheading the Geneva collections, going district wide to provide all children in our district the ability to have appropriate clothing and outer wear for these cold winter months as well as necessary amenities! She has a huge heart and great follow-through! She is a great role model and example of what a Geneva Eagle is!”
• Geneva Middle School: Samantha Leighner, SNA
“‘Miss Sami,’ as all the students refer to her, deserves to be recognized because she is such a supportive team member. Each day Sami goes above and beyond to support her student’s academic and emotional needs, making sure to check in with teachers if her student is having a rough day or needs extra time with assignments. She is very aware not only of the needs of the student she aides for, but many of the other students she has built relationships with. She is also a tremendous support to the teachers she works alongside. As an aide and a parent within the district, Sami has cemented herself into our community!”
• Geneva High School: Anne Markijohn, Teacher
“Anne is a workhorse. If there is something that needs to be done for the betterment of the school or her students, she will put the time in. She is the leader of so many activities and does not get the recognition she needs. Today for example, she is running the blood drive at the high school. While I do not know the extensive list of activities she runs, it seems she is always involved in another activity with the students.”
• Transportation/Main/BOE: David Wright, Maintenance
“Dave is a dedicated employee whose knowledge of the district and its many facets of maintenance is invaluable. Dave can always be relied upon to complete any task asked of him and his dependability is second to none.”
