JEFFERSON – An indictment has been filed against a former councilwoman for the City of Conneaut in the Ashtabula County Court of Common Pleas on two counts each for a pair of third-degree felonies.
Angel Wassie McVoy is facing charges of aggravated theft and unauthorized use of property while an employee at State Road Occupational Health Medical Facility.
The indictment was filed on Tuesday, Feb. 4, and a writ was issued the same day. She is to appear before the court on Thursday, Feb. 19.
She served nearly two terms as an at-large councilwoman for the City of Conneaut before resigning her position and mounted a failed campaign to serve as an Ashtabula County commissioner.
The two counts of aggravated theft were alleged to have taken place between Dec. 1, 2017, and Dec. 31, 2021.
The indictment states that McVoy “did with purpose to deprive the owner, State Road Occupational Medical Facility, of property or services to: over $200,000 in U.S. Currency, knowingly obtain or exert control over either the property or services beyond the scope of express or implied consent of the owner or person authorized to give consent.”
The two counts of unauthorized use of property were alleged to have taken place between March 23, 2018, and Dec. 31, 2021.
The indictment states that McVoy “did knowingly use or operate Lakeview Federal Credit Union accounts of State Road Occupational Medical Facility without the consent of the owner or person authorized to give consent and unauthorized use of property is committed for the purpose of devising or executing a scheme to defraud or to obtain property or services.”
