ORWELL – Longtime Grand Valley High School history teacher Kurtis Fisher will be stepping into the chief administrative role at the elementary school in a little over two weeks.
Fisher has taught U.S. and world history, as well as the College Credit Plus versions of those subjects, for 20 years at the high school. He has been head coach for cross country for 20 years, head track coach for 14 years and was involved with the basketball program for 10 years.
On the administrative side, he has acted as a substitute administrator for the past four years, stepping in for any administrator who had a prolonged absence, and served as dean of students the year before last.
All his educational experience is with older children, but Fisher is excited to work with younger students, pre-kindergarten through 4th grade.
“It’s a new and unique experience,” he said. “I’m looking forward to it.”
Fisher is a 1997 graduate of Cardinal High School in Middlefield and attended Methodist University, a private university located in Fayetteville, North Carolina, then taught in that state for two years before returning to northeast Ohio and taking a position at Grand Valley Local Schools.
Fisher’s first day as principal will be Monday, Aug. 3.
“It’s a chance to work with a different educational clientele,” he said. “I’m looking forward to working with and helping the staff to grow the elementary school.”
