Falcons win on last second shot

The Jefferson Falcons boys’ basketball team avoid a major collapse with a last second 64-63 win over the Edgewood Warriors on Friday, Feb. 20.
The Falcons controlled the game for much of the second half and had a 14-point lead with less than four minutes left to play.
However, the Warriors stormed back behind a barrage of forced turnovers and three-pointers to take a brief lead for the first time since the first half.
Deven Christine scored 13 of his 20 points in the fourth quarter to help the Warriors battle back.
Geno Measel gave the Warriors a 63-62 lead. Jefferson was able to prevent Edgewood from completing the comeback as George Dzura was able to put in a basket from a tough angle behind the basket.
Joel Navarro found Dzura alone under the basket and Dzura put in the game winning shot with his left hand for the 64-63 win.
The two teams played an even opening quarters as the game was tied at 11-11. Joel Navarro paced the Falcons with six of their eleven points in the first quarter.
George Dzura added three points and Dyllan Shetler added a basket. Devine Christine and Logan Mezak each had three points for the Warriors in the first quarter.
Zar Triplin and Mason Thorr each added a basket, while Paul Siler chipped in a free throw.
The Falcons edged out the Warriors 13-12 in the second quarter to take a 22-21 lead into halftime. Joel Navarro and Grady Lendzian each knocked down a three-pointer for Jefferson in the second quarter.
Paxton Fritzche added three points of his own, while Dzura and Shetler each added two points.
Deven Christine paced the Warriors with four points in the second quarter. Geno Measel and Sevieon Chapman each added three-pointers and Triplin added a basket.
Jefferson had a breakout offensively in the third quarter as they outshot Edgewood 25-8 to build a 49-31 lead going into the fourth quarter.
George Dzura did most of the damage for Jefferson with 16 points in the quarter.
Joel Navarro added seven points, while Joey Sands and Brody Deitrich each added a free throw.
Mason Thorr, Zaiden Fox, Logan Mezak and JJ Dufour each had two points for the Warriors in the third quarter.
Jefferson tried to milk the clock in the fourth quarter, but Edgewood would have other plans.
The Warriors caused numerous turnovers down the stretch and hit on several three-points to take the lead after trailing by 18 points.
Deven Christine had a big quarter with 13 points, including nine points off of three-pointers.
Geno Measel added three, there-pointers and Dufour added six points. Zar Triplin and Logan Mezak each added a basket. Joel Navarro and George Dzura each scored four points for the Falcons in the fourth quarter.
Brody Dietrich, Preston Hitchcock and Dyllan Shetler combined for the remaining seven points.
George Dzura led all scorers in the game with 25 points. Joel Navarro finished in double-digits with 20 points.
Devin Christine led the Warriors with 20 points in the game.
Geno Measel was the only other Warriors player in double-digits with 12.
Jefferson and Edgewood will meet again in the postseason on Friday, Feb. 27th.
