Caleb Davis takes over as the Head Coach of the Jefferson Falcons football program.
Davis has played football for most of his life and was a tight end at Warren Champion High School.
The Falcons were 2-8 a year ago and look to build on that record this year. Jefferson started the season with a pair of wins before finishing the season on an eight-game losing streak.
“I’m really excited for the opportunity and grateful to have a great group of athletes and coaches around me,” Davis said.
Davis was an assistant coach for the Falcons last year so has some experience with the team.
“I built a good relationship with the kids last year and think there is a lot of mutual trust and respect,” Davis said.
Returning players for the Falcons are: Mason Kalil, Shawn Miklacic, Paxton Fritchze, Damion Nelson, Joey Sands, Seth Collins, Ben Jackson, Brody Dietrich, Brandon Carr, Lucas Fassett, Austin Witzke, Brayden Seese and Bayleigh Kereky.
The Falcons are trying to build a culture of accountability and fundamentals in the program.
“I’ve really enjoyed leading this group,” Davis said.
Jefferson hopes to make their biggest jump on offense this year.
“I’m an offensive guy so I’m always most excited about seeing my offensive scheme come to life,” Davis said.
The goals for the team are to build a foundation of fundamentals while making the sport of football a positive experience.
“We didn’t quite have the numbers we wanted during the winter months in the weight room, but have had much better turnout this summer. The kids are learning quickly and are ready for Friday nights,” Davis said on how practice this year.
Outside of offense, the Falcons are working on technique this year and teaching a new defensive scheme.
“This is a really tough group of kids. They don’t back down and have a lot of grit. We had a really young team last year so it’ll be exciting seeing them develop,” Davis said.
Assistant coaching this year for Jefferson are: Gordon Tillman, Jeremy Graham, Jim Naylor, Isaac Orahood and Mike Thompson.
Jefferson starts the season with a home game against Chagrin Falls on Friday, August 21st. Jefferson will then travel to take on the Conneaut Spartans in week two. Also, on the schedule for Jefferson this year are: Lakeview, Perry, Geneva, Madison, West Geauga, Hawken, Orange and an end of the regular season match-up against Edgewood.
