The Jefferson Falcons boys’ basketball team picked up a 50-38 win over the visiting Conneaut Spartans on Tuesday, Jan. 6.
It was a slow opening quarter for both teams as Jefferson led 7-4. Joel Navarro led the Falcons with four of their seven points. George Dzura scored the only other basket and Shawn Miklacic added a pair of free throws. The Spartans received a basket from both Alden Goudge and Yadiel Perales Cruz.
The scoring would pick up a little in the second quarter as Jefferson outscored Conneaut 14-12 to lead 21-16. Preston Hitchcock paced the Falcons with six points, including a three-pointer. Navarro added four more points for Jefferson. The Falcons also got a three-pointer from Shawn Miklacic and a basket from George Dzura.
Conneaut tried to battle back in the third quarter as they outshot Jefferson 12-10 to trail 31-28 going into the fourth quarter. Cohen Webb led the Spartans with six points on a pair of three-pointers. Alden Goudge also added a three-pointer for Conneaut. Noah Sigley added the other three points for the Spartans. Preston Hitchcock and Miklacic each hit on three-pointers for the Falcons. Joey Sands and George Dzura each added a basket.
Jefferson turned things up in the fourth quarter to outscore Conneaut 19-10 to win 50-38.
George Dzura led the Falcons with six points to finish with 12 points overall. Hitchcock added five more points to finish with a game high 14 points. Joel Navarro added three points for Jefferson to also finish in double digits with 10 points. Dyllan Shetler, Paxton Fritzsche and Miklacic combined for the remaining five points.
Noah Sigley scored seven of his ten points in the final quarter for Conneaut. Alden Goudge added a pair of free throws for the Spartans, while Brock Richards added one free throw.
