The Geneva Eagles softball team used a third inning rally to defeat the host Madison Blue Streaks 5-2 on Thursday, April 9 in Madison.
With the win, Geneva improved to 2-1 on the season. Madison suffered their first loss and fell to 5-1.
Madison struck first with a run in the bottom of the first inning to take a 1-0 lead.
Geneva countered with three runs in the top of the third inning to build a 3-1 lead.
Geneva tacked on a run in the top of the fifth inning to go up 4-1.
The Eagles would pitch out of a jam in the sixth inning as they only allowed one run to maintain a 4-2 lead.
Geneva tacked on an insurance run in the top of the seventh inning and held on for the 5-2 win.
Paige Higgins started on the mound for Madison and pitched all seven innings. Higgins gave up five runs on 12 hits, three walks and eight strikeouts.
Morgan Hunt recorded the win for Geneva as she pitched seven innings and gave up two runs, zero earned, on five hits, two walks and seven strikeouts.
