The Geneva Eagles football team was able to put on a rushing clinic with a 56-14 homecoming win over the visiting Lakeside Dragons on Thursday, Oct. 9.
Geneva racked up nearly 500 yards on the ground as they picked up 479 total yards on the ground.
With the win Geneva improved to 6-2 on the season, while Lakeside fell to 1-7.
The Eagles were able to get going early as Caden Proy scored on a 28-yard rushing touchdown on fourth and 13th to put Geneva up 6-0. Zach McKinney kicked in the extra point, making it 7-0.
Lakeside answered with a 17-yard touchdown pass from JJ Murphy to Matt Wagner, making it 7-6. Evelyn Stein tacked on the extra point, making it 7-7. However, it would be all Geneva from that point forward.
Caden Proy added a 37-yard touchdown run in the first quarter to put the Eagles up 14-7. Bryce Peet added a 54-yard touchdown, upping the score to 20-7.
Proy would go back to work in the second quarter with three more touchdowns to give him five in the game. Proy scored on a 62-yard touchdown, making it 26-7.
Proy then added a 55-yard punt return for a touchdown, making it 32-7.
The Proy show continued with an 18-yard touchdown run, making it 39-7.
Zach McKinney also hit on a 20-yard field goal in the first half, making it 42-7.
Bryce Peet kept the touchdowns coming with a 26-yard touchdown run in the third quarter, making it 49-7.
Lakeside showed some grit in the fourth quarter with a 1-yard touchdown pass from Murphy to Masceo Boles, making it 49-14.
Brody Hamm was able to score on a 65-yard kickoff return for the Eagles, making the final score 56-14.
Geneva will host the Madison Blue Streaks in an important CVC Lake Division game in week nine.
Lakeside will host the Conneaut Spartans in week nine as both teams look to gain another Ashtabula County Win.
