The Geneva Eagles boys’ basketball team started the season with a win over the visiting North Rangers on Wednesday, Dec. 3. Geneva defeated North 86-69.
The Eagles outscored the Rangers 21-18 in the opening quarter. Nate Csiszar led the Eagles with 12 points all off of three-pointers.
Antonio Rivera added four points, Noah Hicks and Dylan Shaef each added a basket and Caden Proy chipped in a free throw.
Brand Bambrick led the Rangers with six points in the opening quarter. Nate Sagendorph added five points.
Greyson Barney, Braylon Rolf, and Vinny Marsico combined for the remaining seven points.
Geneva started to pull away a little in the second quarter as they outscored North 24-14 to lead 45-32 going into halftime.
Antonio Rivera led the Eagles 14 points and hit on four, three-pointers.
Csiszar added two more three-pointers and Caden Proy added four points. Vinny Marsico led the Rangers with eight points.
Nate Sagendorph, Josh Fenick, and Cam Spicozza combined for the remaining six points.
The two teams each put up 17 points in the third quarter as Geneva led 62-49. Antonio Rivera again led the Eagles with nine points on three-pointers.
Nate Csiszar and Caden Proy each added four points. Rolf paced the Ranges with eight points.
Nate Sagendorph added five more points and Ethan Grinstead and Cam Spicozza each added two points.
North would try to make a late push in the fourth quarter as they were able to whittle the lead down to 2-5 late in the quarter.
However, Geneva would recover and pull away late for the 86-69 win.
Geneva outscored North 24-20 in the quarter to prevent the comeback.
Rivera added seven more points for the Eagles to finish with a game high 34 points.
Nate Csiszar added seven points as well to finish with 29 points.
Caden Proy scored four points in the quarter to finish in double-digits with 15 points.
Dylan Shaef and Bryce Peet each added a late basket.
Barney scored nine points for the Rangers in the quarter to finish with 12 points. Rolf added four points to finish with 14 points.
Sagendorph added a three-pointer to finish with a team high 16 points.
Bambrick also scored four points in the final quarter to finish in double-digits with ten points.
Vinny Marisco also finished the game in double-digits for North with 10 points.
The big difference in the game for the Eagles was knocking down 16 three-pointers, including nine by Rivera and seven by Csiszar.
