GENEVA – The City of Geneva is offering a way to beat the heat.
With an extreme heat warning in effect until 8 p.m. Thursday, residents have a place to go to cool off in the city.
According to a June 8th announcement on the city’s website, a public cooling station is open to help residents stay safe whenever a Heat Advisory is issued by the National Weather Service.
The location for the cooling station is the City of Geneva Administration Building. The hours of operation are 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
The city’s administration building is located at 44 North Forest St.
Pets aren’t allowed.
According to the National Weather Service, dangerously hot conditions with heat index values up to 107 are expected in portions of north central, northeast, and northwest Ohio until 8 p.m. Thursday.
The NWS states that heat-related illnesses increase significantly during extreme heat and high humidity events.
“The prolonged nature of the heat event with little overnight relief through the week will increase impacts to vulnerable populations,” the NWS states.
People are advised to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.
