The Conneaut Spartans softball team picked up their first win of the season on Monday, April 13 over the Lakeside Dragons. Conneaut defeated Lakeside 9-5 to improve to 1-3 on the season.
Lyla Hamilton started on the mound for Lakeside and pitched three innings. Hamilton gave up five runs, one earned, on one hit, three walks and four strikeouts. Natalie Myers pitched four innings of relief and gave up four runs, two earned, on five hits, two walks and one strikeout.
Bella Young pitched all seven innings in the win for Conneaut and gave up five runs, three earned, on six hits, five walks and eleven strikeouts.
Lakeside looked to gain control of the game early as they pitched a shutout in the top of the first inning and scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning.
Conneaut started to chip away at the lead with a run in the top of the second inning, making it 4-1.
Conneaut went on to take the lead with four runs in the top of the third inning to go up 5-4.
Conneaut continued to add on with two runs in the fifth inning and one run in the sixth inning, making it 8-4.
Lakeside added a run in the bottom half of the sixth inning, but still trailed 8-5.
Conneaut added one more insurance run in the top of the seventh inning to win 9-5.
