GENEVA – Shandi Wyland and Gena Loy have bungee jumped into a new business in Geneva.
They are the owners of Lunge Bungee Fitness at 140 N. Broadway.
On Wednesday, Sept. 9, the Geneva Area Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting for the business.
Wyland said Lunge Bungee Fitness has been in the works for two years. It opened on Sept. 15.
“It’s amazing, finally,” she said. “It’s a like a breath of fresh air.”
Andrew Raymond, executive director of the Geneva Area Chamber of Commerce, said the new business is a great addition to Geneva.
“There has been a lot of interest and anticipation building in the community, leading up to the opening,” he said. “It’s such a unique experience. There’s only a few bungee studios in Ohio, and it’s awesome we have one in Geneva.”
Wyland and Loy offer a unique form of exercise in which people are put into a harness, which is attached by a bungee cord to the ceiling. Once strapped in, people can then move back and forth, upside down and even do push-ups with their legs.
According to Wyland, it’s a low-impact exercise that allows people to burn a high amount of calories. She said it’s good for joint issues and cardiovascular health.
“It’s a very fun way to exercise,” she said.
Although people may feel kind of awkward at first, they get comfortable with the exercise as they move around.
“You feel like you’re flying, it’s really cool,” Wyland said.
Wyland and Loy became aware of bungee fitness a couple years ago, becoming really interested in it.
“We fell in love with it and wanted to have a studio,” she said.
A certified bungee teacher at Fly Bungee Fitness in Cincinnati provided certification and they were on their way.
To date, there’s been a good response from the public to the new business.
“We’ve had thousands of people message with us and comment on our posts,” Wyland said. “It’s been a really positive experience so far. Everybody loves it, they’re rebooking classes.”
With nine bungee stations available, a single class of up to nine people costs $25 and lasts an hour. A private class is $35.
Lunge Bungee Fitness, which features a 2,500-square-foot indoor studio, can be found in the former Thrift building, located by the railroad trucks in the same parking lot as Domino’s Pizza in Geneva.
