ASHTABULA TOWNSHIP – There are students who would choose to hide their report cards given half a chance, while there are others who can’t wait to show their achievements.
After receiving its 2025-26 State Report Card, the Buckeye Local School District falls into the latter category.
Boosted by individual school ratings, Buckeye Local Schools earned a 4-star rating overall, meaning it exceeds state standards.
“I am so proud of the work that our students and staff have been doing regarding our academic success,” Buckeye Local Schools Superintendent Patrick Colucci said. “I really want to highlight, commend and congratulate Kingsville Elementary for receiving a 5-star rating. No other building in the entire county received a 5 this year. Ridgeview Elementary was one of only two schools in the county that received a 4.5-star rating, with no individual category within their report card lower than 4 stars.”
Kingsville Elementary’s 5-star result marks the first time a building in the district has earned the state’s top rating.
The district received 4 stars, meaning it exceeds state standards, in progress, gap closing and graduation.
“We maintained strong 4-star ratings in both academic progress and graduation rates, proving consistent year-over-year achievement and long-term student success,” School Improvement Coordinator Danyel Ryan said. “We improved to 4 stars (from 3 stars) in gap closing reflecting a strong commitment to supporting every student subgroup and ensuring equitable success.”
The district meets state standards and received 3 stars in achievement and early literacy. The district’s low point was a 2-star rating in college, career, workforce and military readiness, which means it needs state support to meet state standards.
“We made significant gains in early literacy,” Ryan said. “We jumped to 3 stars (up from 2 stars), driven by targeted classroom interventions and early reading initiatives.”
The district’s four-year graduation rate is 95.8 percent, which is up from 93.6 percent a year ago. The chronic absenteeism rate is currently 30.2 percent, down from 33.2 percent a year ago.
Kingsville Elementary received 5 stars in progress and gap closing, 4 stars in achievement and 3 stars in early literacy.
Ridgeview Elementary received 4.5 stars overall. It received 5 stars in gap closing and 4 stars in achievement, progress and early literacy.
Braden Middle School’s overall rating was 4 stars. It received 4 stars in gap closing and progress and 3 stars in achievement.
Edgewood High School received the lowest rating in the district with 3.5 stars. It received 4 stars for its graduation rate and 3 stars for achievement and progress. Its rating in college, career, workforce and military readiness was 2 stars.
“I am thrilled to share the remarkable progress our district has achieved this year,” Ryan said. “This growth is a direct reflection of the relentless dedication, hard work and collaboration across our entire school community from our energizing students and skilled teachers to our essential support staff, visionary administrators and family partnerships. I want to personally thank our superintendent for setting a clear strategic vision focused on continuous improvement, our board of education for their continuous support and allowing me to work with our amazing staff.”
“This achievement represents a total team effort,” Ryan continued. “Together, the Buckeye Local School District remains dedicated to building on this momentum and fostering a strong future for every student.”
