Paul Hamilton, formerly of Jefferson, Ohio, now of Ashtabula, had the incredible experience of traveling to Belize to deliver equipment and supplies to needy schools.
I know this man quite well as he is my oldest son. He has always had a heart to give and share his time and resources, so when he was asked by the owner of his company’s technical firm to go with Rotary on one of their Belize mission trips, he was more than willing. Each team member pays all their own expenses including air fare.
Kent Iller, of Sheffield, Ohio, president and CEO of Iler Networking Computing Company, led the Ohio team of four men from this area. He has been making the Belize mission trip since 2014 through Rotary’s District 6600, which covers much of Northwest Ohio. Also traveling with Paul and Kent was Mel Honig of Toledo. He is now 82 and began leading the Belize mission trips in 2010.
After arriving at the Philip S.W. Goldson International Airport in Belize, the men rented a car to reach their first Airbnb. The accommodations were very basic but met their needs. Along the way, they stopped at one of the many roadside stands which offer whole meals with a few tables and chairs. Rice and beans are a part of every meal. Fresh squeezed fruit juice from watermelon, pineapple, oranges and limes are a staple and available everywhere.
