MADISON TOWNSHIP – A reported box of human bones found in a South Ridge Road residence prompted an investigation by the Madison Township Police Department Friday, Feb. 20.
“We received a call at approximately 9:30 a.m. from a cleaning company who was in the process of cleaning out an apartment in the 5400 block of South Ridge Road (State Route 84), when they discovered a box containing what appeared to be human and nonhuman skeletal remains,” Police Sgt. Matthew Gosnik said. “Those items were collected and the Lake County Coroner’s Office was contacted. They are going to eventually take possession of the evidence to analyze it and determine if they are genuinely human bones.”
A press release from Police Chief Troy Hager added the bones in question have metal-like hinges, clasps and wiring indicating, if they are real, they would have been part of an anatomical display for schools.
Madison Township police are investigating the incident with assistance from the Lake County Coroner’s Office.
