ASHTABULA COUNTY – The Ashtabula County Veterans Scholarship Program is proud to announce the awarding of twelve $1,500 scholarships to graduating seniors across Ashtabula County in its inaugural year.
Originally established to provide nine $500 scholarships, one for each high school in the county, the program expanded significantly thanks to the generosity of 30 donors. Their support allowed the program to increase both the number of recipients and the award amount, strengthening its mission to uplift students connected to the veteran community.
To qualify, applicants were required to be the child of an eligible veteran parent enrolled with the Veterans Service Commission. Students also demonstrated academic excellence and commitment to their future by meeting the following criteria:
• Maintaining a minimum 3.0 GPA
• Securing a faculty letter of recommendation
• Submitting a 500-word essay
• Providing proof of commitment to post-secondary education, including college, trade programs, or military service
“These students exemplify the dedication, resilience, and service-minded values that define our veteran community,” said Veterans Service Commission Executive Director Benjamin Schwartfigure. “We are honored to support their educational journeys and deeply grateful to the donors who made this inaugural year possible.”
