The Ashtabula County swim teams were recently announced with three individuals taking home swimmer of the year honors.
Liam Rich, of Conneaut, and Elliott Tobie, of Edgewood, shared the boys swimmer of the year honors.
Both Rich and Tobie qualified for districts this past season.
Rich qualified for districts in both the 200 individual medley and the 100 butterfly.
On top of qualifying for districts the past two seasons, Rich also holds numerous Conneaut swimming records. Rich holds the 200IM record in a time of 2:13 the 100 butterfly with a time of 58.37 and the 100 breaststroke in a time of 1:10.11.
Rich is also on the Spartans record relay teams including: the 200 medley relay with a time of 2:02.53 the 200 free relay with a time of 1:44.45 and the 400 free relay with a time of 3:59.47.
Tobie qualified for districts in the 100 breaststroke.
Tobie also has the Edgewood school record in the breaststroke with a time of 1:02.79.
LaLa Hanek was named the Ashtabula County girls’ swimmer for the third straight season.
Hanek not only qualified for districts for the third straight year, she also qualified for the state meet for the third straight year.
On top of reaching state, Hanek qualified in two events this past season. Hanek would finish 12th overall in the 50 freestyle with a time of 24.77.
Hanek also finished 15th overall in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:00.44.
Ashtabula County Coach of the Year honors went to both Jamie Lee, of Geneva, and Steve Hanek, of Jefferson. Lee was named the boys’ swimming coach of the year after he helped led the Eagles to the All-County Championship.
Hanek was named the girls’ swimming coach of the year after sending his daughter LaLa to the state swim meet in a pair of events.
Both coaches helped guide numerous swimmers on to the district level both as individual swimmers and relay teams.
