SHEFFIELD TOWNSHIP – The long-running and popular Boo Wow Canine Carnival and pet adoption event brought families and their furry friends to Brant’s Apple Orchard, Sunday, Sept. 20, to support the Ashtabula County Animal Protective League.
Catena Shore, executive director for the Ashtabula County Animal Protective League, said Boo Wow featured trick-or-treating for people and dogs, games, a dog costume contest, facepainting and a photo station.
The fundraising side featured a 50/50 raffle where supporters got a small rubber duck for their dashboard, as well as a basket raffle and commemorative t-shirts for the event, with proceeds going toward the nonprofit’s operations.
“The community always comes through for us,” Shore said.
The main event was the adopt-a-thon, with some dogs on site and profiles with photos for more, as well as some foster dogs that were also available to take home.
“Thanks to the sponsors for today, we were able to reduce adoption fees,” Shore said. “All our dogs are spayed and neutered, microchipped, vaccines, all that – and the adoption fee is normally $125. Today, all these dogs are $50.”
Shore said last year, the APL was able to find 10 adoptive homes for dogs in the nonprofit’s care, and she hoped to do the same last weekend, as their shelter is over capacity.
