Perry - The Perry Giving Library is a project to place three small ‘library boxes’ in the community to house preschool through second grade books. Families can borrow books and replace them.
PAINESVILLE - The Lake County Master Gardener Volunteers and Lake County’s OSU Extension Agriculture and Natural Resources Educator Tom deHaas are taking registrations for their new Master Gardener Volunteer Training program which runs June 7 through Aug. 30 this year. The application deadline is Monday, April 3.

Painesville –The Pinewood Derby was set to go at the Central YMCA on Feb. 25. The 17 cars were checked in. Anticipation was in the air as the participants, their families and friends enjoyed last minute refreshments, including pizza, chips and beverages before heading into the gymnasium for the big races. This was serious business, but a lot of fun, too.
PAINESVILLE – Millennials aren't always interested in purchasing the hundreds of small 1950’s bungalows in Lake County, although that could change thanks to a local architectural redesign competition.
Fourteen Auburn architecture and project management students will each present home concept plans for enlarged and modernized bungalows during “The Better Flip,” a March 21 program co-sponsored by the Lake County Ohio Port and Economic Development Authority and Auburn Career Center.
Mentor – The City of Mentor and dozens of hotels and motels in and surrounding the city are happy with the selection of Mentor as host of the 2017 USA Hockey High School National Championships.
The March 30 to April 2 championships were announced by City Manager Kenneth Filipiak during a Feb. 27 State of the City luncheon at the LaMalfa center, hosted by the Mentor Area Chamber of Commerce.
NORTH PERRY – Council suspended readings and passed a resolution which would allow it to change the positions of fiscal officer and parks director from full-time to part-time positions at the March 2 council meeting.
MADISON TOWNSHIP – Trustee Ken Gauntner said he finally saw what trustees Max Anderson and Pete Wayman were referring to about an issue with newspaper litter at the Feb. 28 meeting.
LAKE COUNTY – Benjamin Rose Institute on Aging and RSVP Lake County have received a grant from the Lake County Board of Commissioners for a project designed to engage older adults with dementia in a music intervention, Music and Memory. The grant is funded through the Lake County Senior Citizens Collaborative Initiative.
