Jefferson Council opposes centralized collection of income taxes

JEFFERSON – The Village of Jefferson has joined many other municipalities in opposing the possible formation of a centralized municipal income-tax collection by the state.
During its meeting on Monday, March 20, Jefferson Village Council passed a resolution strongly opposing Gov. John Kasich’s proposed 2017-2018 budget, including the centralized collection of net-profit tax returns and other provisions related to the municipal income tax, which, according to Jefferson officials, will cause a substantial loss of revenue needed to support the health, safety, welfare and economic development efforts of Ohio municipalities.

Visconsi abandons purchase of Veterans Point in ‘win-win’ for developer, township

JEFFERSON – Veterans Point will remain a portion of Peleg Sweet Park and Ashtabula Township property after Cleveland-based developer Visconsi LLC decided the “emotional tie” was too important to Ashtabula Township residents for the firm to move ahead with its purchase for the construction of a new Sheetz location at the intersection of State and East Prospect Roads.

Geneva Board of Education moves toward income tax levy on November ballot

GENEVA – A Geneva Area City Schools Board of Education work session March 15 saw the board move closer to placing a levy on the ballot in November to offset a projected deficit in district finances based on a five-year forecast from the board treasurer presented in October, 2016.
