GENEVA-ON-THE-LAKE – The Greater Ashtabula Chamber of Commerce held its first Casino Night fundraiser April 8 at the Lodge and Conference Center at Geneva-on-the-Lake with gaming tables, a DJ, prize drawings and a fun atmosphere making for a good time had by all.
The black tie-optional event featured a Chinese auction – tickets were part of the admission price and more were available for sale – for nearly 30 prizes ranging from a recliner donated by Furniture Towne in downtown Ashtabula, to a night’s stay at the Lodge for two, to an aerial tour of Geneva-on-the-Lake care of Harpersfield Township’s Stellar Copters.
The Lake Erie Ballroom at the Lodge sported several gaming tables operated and overseen by Cleveland-based gaming firm PCI Entertainment – a blackjack table, craps and roulette tables as well as a three-card poker table, all of which proved popular.
In addition to the auction, a “barrel of booze” fundraiser was on hand, in which guests bid for a container stuffed full of liquor bottles. Another fundraiser was the “game o' chance” which proceeds similarly to a 50/50 raffle.
“I think it went very well,” Julie Sindquist, executive director of the Greater Ashtabula Chamber of Commerce, said. “Everyone had a great time. The tables were packed. I’m just very appreciative and pleased with the support we continue to receive from the community.”
Part of the “great time” was a dance break during which the DJ announced Saturday was Sundquist’s birthday and played several numbers in her honor, from the John Lennon/Paul McCartney classic “Birthday” to Luther ‘Luke’ Campbell’s “It’s Your Birthday,” during which Sundquist and several guests took to the dancefloor.
Sundquist declared Casino Night a success and said the event will be held again next year. Casino Night joins the Greater Ashtabula Chamber golf outing and the business-to-business showcase as fundraisers for the organization to finance member services, according to Sundquist.
