ANDOVER – PV High School students may not have had the chance to get outside with the rainy weather on Friday, March 31 but they did get to participate in a variety of ways to stay fit in their physical education class led by their Teacher Emily Pittman. (From April 7 edition of The News).
“Mrs. Pittman is my favorite teacher,” said Freshman Tristin Peytt. “The class is pretty good.”
The class Peytt enjoyed that day consisted of a game of smash ball, which Pittman said is a form of softball but instead allows runners to hit each other with the ball instead of tagging the bases.
“My biggest challenge is getting them to participate [in physical education activities],” said Pittman in regards to her choice of the activity, which she said is often solved by encouraging the students to stay open minded in trying new ideas, regardless of whether they think they’ll like it.
Other creative activities Pittman has been coming up with lately include some videos on yoga and kick boxing she had students work out to this past week, as well as recently finished up a lesson where students came up with one minute dance videos.
In the future Pittman also hopes to form a March madness basketball game through help from Teacher Jeff Compan.
“They’re fun for the most part,” said Pittman regarding the lessons she teaches.
Junior Madison Hurt said she enjoys the variety of activities in physical education as well, including smash ball.
“We played smash ball [today by] getting into teams,” said Hurt. “It’s fun to have some competition in school.”
Freshman Hannah Marcin thoughts were also similar.
“You sit in desks all day [in other classes so] it’s nice to have a class that has activities. You can run around and interact with other people.”
Mostly Marcin said she enjoys being active by playing dodgeball, as does Freshman Daniella Dalton.
“I really enjoy everything about gym class,” said Dalton, which she said includes a fondness towards dodgeball, as well as kickball. “I like how it’s fun and [we] have a lot of activities to do.”
