ANDOVER – Owner Karen Holen will be going on five years specializing in holistic health at Holen Family Chiropractic in Andover, a position that she does not take lightly. (From April 7 edition of The News).
“Even as a kid I never understood medications. Chiropractic made more sense for health, how the body functions, heals itself, nutrition, wellness [and] exercise,” said Holen. “I’ve always had a heart for health and wellness and chiropractic’s.
Initially Holen said that she attended Penn State University, where she received her undergraduate degree in nutrition before going on and graduating as a doctor chiropractic at Life University in Georgia.
From there Holen worked for ten years in South York, Pa. at a chiropractic center until eventually developing her own practice in Andover, which she calls Holen Family Chiropractic.
At Holen Family Chiropractic customers have access to a variety of services including chiropractic, nutrition, counseling, orthotics for feet, extremity adjusting, as well as dry needling, which Holen said is new and breaks trigger points to help patients get pain relief and hold adjustments better.
Aside from chiropractic’s, Holen said she provides cervical and lumbar compression and various other adjustments depending on what is needed, which she said are all gently done by hand and notes that she is also certified in the Webster technique for women experiencing breech pregnancies, as well as is certified to adjust pets, which she finds very rewarding.
“The whole emphasis is to take pressure off the nervous system so the brain and body can communicate better. It’s about correcting the problem before it becomes a chronic issue,” said Holen regarding her on chiropractic’s.
Aside from her services, Holen said she also provides access to a massage therapist named Aundrea Bechteo on Tuesdays from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. and Thursdays from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. and includes $35 massages for half an hour, $55 massages for one hour and $65 for hot stone massages.
Anyone interested in health and wellness are invited to subscribe to a Holen Family Chiropractic monthly newsletter, which includes a chance to win $40 of Chiro bucks toward products if they participate in a quiz, as well as are offered access to nutrition exams, counseling, high level organic products that she said have the least amount of processing, along with protein drinks.
In the future Holen said she hopes to conduct lectures at Andover Public Library, as she enjoys helping others and bettering herself by staying active and learning.
“I stay busy here, I’m definitely a person who likes to learn a lot. I’m always learning new things,” said Holen. “I like my office to be a one stop shop for wellness. I always try to be there to help people out. It’s just always been a passion [of mine] to help people get better. And the coolest thing is it’s without drugs or surgery.”
