WILLOUGHBY - On Thursday, March 2 at 4:25 p.m., Willoughby Police responded to Grant Elementary School on Lost Nation Road for a disturbance in the parking lot. Upon arrival, officers learned that an assault had taken place inside one of the school buses.
As one of the school buses was attempting to leave the school lot to transport students home, an unknown vehicle had stopped alongside the bus. An unknown male stepped out of the passenger side of the car and approached the doors to the school bus. The 70-year-old bus driver opened the doors to see what the male wanted.
The male told the driver that he wanted to take his daughter off of the bus. When the driver refused, the male allegedly threatened the bus driver. The male then walked onto the bus and punched the driver in the face.
The male and the child walked off the bus and got into the stopped vehicle while an unknown female driver waited inside. The car left the area before police arrived.
Police searched the area and numerous other locations for several hours looking for the student. Police learned later that evening that the student was with her mother.
On March 6, an arrest warrant for 5th degree felony assault was signed at Willoughby Municipal Court for the arrest of Ronnie Haskins. The 37 year old suspect is a resident of Cleveland Heights, and believed to be the father of the student. If anyone has information on Haskins’ whereabouts, call the Willoughby Police Department at 440-953-4212.
