April 4, 1930 - March 6, 2017
Rittuccia “Rita” Giancola, age 86, of Ashtabula, passed away peacefully in her Ashtabula home March 6.
The daughter of Domenico and Dina “Campagne” DeCola, Rita was born April 4, 1930 in Cerro al Volturno, Italy.
She came to America in 1961 and had been an area resident ever since. Upon her arrival in America, she began to raise her immediate family of four with a strong sense of compassion, which was a hallmark of her character all the way through until her death.
She spent her first two decades in the States working for Rockwell International, a plastics manufacturing company. She stood beside and worked hand in hand with Raffaele “Ralph” Giancola, her late husband, as he founded his own company of the same trade, GMR Technology.
She patiently and supportively watched him and her son, Antonio “Tony” Giancola work together as they have expanded their single company into multiple organizations over the past 33 years. She was particularly proud of coming full-circle and preserving jobs at the company where she was employed as a production worker (Rockwell International) which became Zehrco-Giancola Composites.
Rita is survived by her son, Tony (Gina) Giancola; grandchildren, Ida, Giulia and Raffaele Giancola; sisters, Evelina (Domenico) Massucci and Olivia (Thomas) Corlette.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of over 50 years, Raffaele “Ralph” Giancola; and her daughter, Ida Giancola who passed away at age 11; brother, Luigi (Virginia) DeCola; sisters, Antoinette Brabender and Orietta Marino.
Following services, she was entombed next to her husband in the mausoleum at Greenlawn Memory Gardens in North Kingsville.
Zaback-Williams-Ducro Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
